Eva Grambye is Deputy Executive Director at the Danish Institute for Human Rights (DIHR), heading the International Division. The Institute is Denmark’s independent national human rights institution established by law. The International Division works directly with states, international organisations, civil society and the corporate sector. Mrs. Grambye has had a long career in the Foreign Service, most recently as Special Envoy for the Global Green Growth Forum (3GF now P4G) and Head of Department in the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Prior to this appointment Mrs. Grambye served as Deputy Head of the Department for Development Policy and Humanitarian Assistance, responsible for one third of Danish foreign assistance. Mrs. Grambye served as a diplomat with the Danish Embassy in Washington, DC, in charge of the Development Policy Department, which included Denmark’s organizational relations to the World Bank. Preceding this posting, Mrs. Grambye was Head of Section in the Humanitarian Department, where she led civil-military policy development and the Danish chairmanship of the Good Humanitarian Donorship initiative. Mrs. Grambye spent five years in Geneva as First Secretary at the Danish Mission to the United Nations where she was responsible for human rights issues. She was the lead negotiator on the Resolution on Combating Torture presented to the Commission on Human Rights by the Danish Government.
Mrs. Grambye began her career in the UN system as a member of the United Nations Development Programme team working on the restructuring of the world’s largest environment trust fund - the Global Environment Facility (GEF). She has represented Denmark in numerous international meetings including seven UN General Assemblies and five annual summits of the Commission on Human Rights. Mrs. Grambye has received the Annemarie and Erling Kristensen Award (given to young talented diplomats for further studies). She was competitively selected as an International Women’s Foundation Fellow and she has completed Executive Leadership Education at Harvard Business School and INSEAD.
Mrs. Grambye is Board member, Save the Children Denmark; Board member, Danish Institute for Parities and Democracy; Council member, Danish Refugee Council.
